Newer Subdivisions and HOAs
Much of Jenks’ housing has gone up in the last few decades, much of it in neighborhoods with homeowners associations. HOAs often control the size, material, color and placement of backyard structures. Submit plans to the architectural committee before signing a contract, and ask the builder for drawings and color samples you can include.
Shade by the Pool
Backyard pools are common in Jenks. A freestanding pergola or louvered roof beside the pool gives shade without blocking sun on the water. Keep in mind:
- Clearances. Codes and HOAs may set distances between structures and the pool edge. Overhead electrical lines matter too.
- Corrosion. Powder-coated aluminum and vinyl handle splash and pool chemicals better than bare steel hardware.
- Footings near the pool deck. Posts shouldn’t undermine the deck or plumbing. The builder should locate lines first.
Older Homes Near Downtown
Homes near Main Street and the older parts of town are often on smaller lots with mature trees. A modest attached cover or wood pergola usually fits these yards better than a large freestanding structure.

Near the River
Parts of Jenks are close to the Arkansas River. If your property is in a mapped flood zone, adding a structure can involve extra review. Check with the City of Jenks before you build.
Permits
Jenks has its own permit office, separate from Tulsa and Broken Arrow. Ask the builder to confirm what Jenks requires for your project and who will pull the permit.
See the cost guide for sourced prices. Use the form below. Jenks requests go to a builder that also serves Broken Arrow and Tulsa.
Request a Patio Cover Quote
Tell us about the patio. A local Broken Arrow-area builder will call or text you back to look at the space and give you a written estimate.
Please note: Broken Arrow Patio Covers connects homeowners with independent local patio cover and pergola builders. We are not a contractor and do not do the work.
